Jewish Funeral Service Options

At Sherman’s Flatbush Memorial Chapel, Inc. we provide a wide variety of services that cater to our families’ requirements and individual desires that are needed to make knowledgeable decisions about funerals. Our professional services extend to the orthodox, conservative and reformed Jewish communities. We know funerals and you know your loved one. Let’s work together to create a Jewish memorial service that will pay a fitting tribute.

If you would like to share this moment with your broad network of family and friends, we will help you spread the word. We’ll use our print and online channels to bring the community together to celebrate your loved one’s life.

You can choose to hold your ceremony in our chapel or you can choose to hold it elsewhere. Just let us know what you prefer.

  • Traditional Jewish Funerals: Jewish funeral services are held in one of three locations: the synagogue, our funeral home, or at the graveside. We believe it's safe to say that almost any Jewish funeral–whether Orthodox, Conservative, or Reform–is characterized by simplicity and solemnity.

  • Graveside Funerals: Graveside services today are common. A major reason is families have moved out of the metropolitan area. Therefore, the graveside service provides an intimate setting for a smaller group. We can accommodate a graveside Jewish funeral service at the designated cemetery at a time that is compatible with the needs of the family.

  • Cremations: Cremations are an alternative to the traditional funeral. Even though Jewish tradition does not approve of cremation, there are some people who prefer this procedure. We offer either a full service cremation with services in our chapel or direct cremation without any formal services. This may or may not be followed by a memorial service.

  • Jewish burial service: Whether you’ve have chosen a traditional burial or above ground in a mausoleum, we will work with you to ensure that you have every opportunity to bring family and friends together to say a final goodbye before the burial.

  • Jewish headstone and gravestone options from Sherman Monuments, LLC

  • Jewish funeral pre planning service: The funeral directors at Sherman's Flatbush Memorial Chapel, Inc. will guide you through all phases of Jewish funeral pre planning in Brooklyn, so that when the time comes, all your family will have to do is make a telephone call to us. All of your final wishes will be carried out.

  • Traditional funerals include the ritual washing (Tahara), burial garment (shroud) and a traditional person to sit with the remains (watcher or shomer). The funeral directors here at Sherman’s will guide you through all phases of the arrangements during this difficult time.

When someone passes away out-of-state or even out-of-the-country, we respectfully recommend calling Sherman's Flatbush Memorial Chapel, Inc. first. We do so for one simple reason: we've found that it will be more cost-effective for your family. Since we will manage all of the details involving out-of-state or international processing and paperwork, your family will not only receive the finest care, you'll also save time, frustration, and what often amounts to a great deal of money.

Completing all documentation such as Social Security forms, Veterans forms and Insurance policies are a service we provide to help you get through this difficult time.  We will make sure that they are filled out correctly and send them to the proper parties.

Assisting with the writing and the placing of death notices in newspapers.  We will help to compose the death notice in accordance with your wishes, and place it in any newspaper in the United States.  We will also provide plain acknowledgment cards at no additional charges.

Out-of-state shipping: For families wishing to inter their beloved family member in Israel, we want you to know that one of our experienced funeral professionals can make all the necessary arrangements. We will procure the necessary documents from the Israeli Consulate, and arrange with the Chevra Kadisha in Israel to conduct the burial.
