Condolence: To the Family of Carl Makower- I am very sorry to hear of Carl's passing. I was in the Photography Club from 1975-77, and He was a fabulous teacher, giving me lots of guidance, and support to work better with the camera, and with the instruments in the darkroom. Many people as they graduate, don't realize that every Yearbook, has His "work, dedication, and experience" in it.May He RIP. Again, very sorry for your loss. LOU MARESCO, FHHS 78

Condolence: My condolences to the family of Mr. Makower. He was my photo teacher at Fort Hamilton H.S. From 1977 to 1981. After graduation, I went on to become a Photographers Mate in the United States Navy, serving for 21 years. My love of photography continues to this day, and the early guidance and inspiration came from Mr. Makower.

Condolence: Dear Gail, Julie & Family, I'll always remember Mr. Makower (I don't think I ever got used to calling him Carl) as he was truly a very special person to me. I knew him in many capacities...as a teacher, yearbook adviser (1983), college adviser, at times even as a quasi-parent and ultimately as a friend into my adulthood. He could be depended on to give his honest opinion, and yet he also knew how to encourage and inspire others to action, to believe in themselves and to strive to do their best. I remember having a conversation with Carl in my senior year and telling him that I wanted to be a computer science major. He looked at me, shook his head, and said, "No, I don't see you behind a computer screen, I see you working with people." Though I attempted to pursue computer science, ultimately, he was right as I am currently a 5th grade teacher. My heartfelt wishes go out to his family at this time. He will be greatly missed as he left the world a better place and an indelible mark on my life as well as that of many others.
