Obituary for Karen Levy

Karen, the daughter of Bernie and Anita Levy, was born on December 3, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York, and died December 11, 2022. She is predeceased by her dear friend Gail Levin. We offer gratitude to her cherished friend Pat Gaffney and her life-long friend Maureen Rhinehart for the devotion they gave to Karen in her last months. Karen graduated from the State University of New York College at Buffalo and Adelphi University with Master of Fine Arts Degree. Her career at Robbins Lane School in Syosset began in the mid-sixties and ended with her retirement in June of 2008.
During that career she made significant contributions to Robbins Lane School and its PTA, as well as the Syosset School District. For many years she served at the Chair of the District Art Program and was the Robbins Lane Representative for the Syosset Techers’ Association.
Her contributions to the Robbins Lane Art Program and well as to other school activities is notable: the creation of the Elementary School Art Galleries, the Annual Haunted House, Fifth Grade Overnight Field Trips (Philadelphia and Greenkill), leadership for the Annual Curriculum Night Show, and the integration of art concepts with classroom instruction. She showed her students, her colleagues, and parents respect and love. Her influence toward the creation of a warm, inviting atmosphere was immeasurable; evidenced by the love returned to her by the families and staff of Robbins Lane School.
In commemoration of her outstanding performance as both teacher and PTA member, The Robbins Lane PTA bestowed her with the esteemed Jenkins Award and The National Congress of Parents and Teachers honored her with the Life Achievement Award. Those that had to pleasure and honor of her presence hold treasured memories of her. Let us not be sad she is gone, let us be happy she was.
