Obituary for Mark Koppelman

Mark Koppelman passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023, at the age of 85. Mark was a devoted husband of Susan J. Koppelman z” l, and beloved father of Heidi Resnick (Matthew), and Libby Posner (Joshua), and grandfather of Myles Samuel, Jonah Benjamin, Shayna Brette, and Charley Paige.
Mark was born in Brooklyn, New York to Louis and May Koppelman, and grew up in Bensonhurst with his brothers Charles and Joel, and his German Shephard and Pekingese, Princie, and Queenie. He attended Yeshivah Ohel Moshe, Lafayette High School, and City College, and was a proud alumnus keeping in touch with the many friends he had made over the course of his lifetime. He was a musician who played clarinet and saxophone and spent many years playing in the Catskill mountains which fostered his early career in the music publishing business. He was known for having a song for every word in the English language and was always humming or singing a tune.
He joined the army where he served in the pictorial service and was honorably discharged after serving as a Vietnam era Veteran. He met his beautiful wife, Susan, at a dance in Brooklyn and it was love at first sight. They were married less than a year later on August 17, 1968, in Manhattan Beach Jewish Center in a snowball wedding with the groom wearing top hat and tails. He went into a lengthy career in title insurance sales before his retirement in 2013. He was active in the Masons, the real estate square club, and later in the Jewish War Veterans, serving in many leadership positions.
Mark moved to Queens to be closer to Heidi, Matt, and the boys. During the pandemic, Mark moved to the warm sunshine of South Florida to be closer to Libby, Josh, and the girls. He always loved to be surrounded by his family. He was a storyteller extraordinaire and was considered the family historian.
Mark and Susan did everything together, enjoying weekends and summers at their home in upstate New York. They were married for 36 years before Susan lost her battle with cancer at the young age of 59 in 2004. He spent every day since, remembering her and missing her until he could no longer be without her. We will miss his smile, his laugh, and all of his countless stories, and will cherish the memory of all the years we had together.
