Obituary for Ida Rosenblum

Ida Rosenblum
January 23, 1925 – September 24, 2020

Ida Rosenblum passed away on September 24, 2020 at age 95 at the Menorah Nursing Home in Brooklyn, New York. Born on January 23, 1925 in New York City, she was the only daughter of William Robinson and Minnie Robinson (nee Menaker). She met and fell in love with her husband Nathan Samuel Rosenblum when she walked into his Manhattan pharmacy. They were married for 63 years until his death on April 17, 2007. Ida would often jest, “Every day at 5:00 PM I thought I was getting divorced… but at 7:00 PM it blew over.” She is also preceded in death by her daughter Lynn Pamela Rosenblum (January 18, 1951 – August 28, 1962) who succumbed to childhood leukemia.
Ida is survived by her son Dr. Jeffrey Lee Rosenblum, M.D., a urologic surgeon and his fiancée Lea Pallas whom she considered her surrogate daughter. She was beloved aunt to Andrea Auerbach (nee Wang) and Nancy Jablon (nee Wang).
A 1945 graduate of Brooklyn College, Ida taught in the New York City school system for over half a century. Her passion for education allowed her to assume a myriad of roles including principal. Public School #209 in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn was her second home. She attained numerous New York City Board of Education accolades and her legacy lives on in all the students’ lives that she influenced.
Ida’s mantra was “Upward and Onward!” She enjoyed whatever she did especially attending Broadway theater. Although this may be her final act on earth, her undying spirit continues.
