Obituary for Marilynn Star

Marilynn Star died on June 22, 2022 at Staten Island University Hospital.
She is survived by her daughter, Debra DeMarco, of Brooklyn, NY, her son, David DeMarco (Pamela) of Saratoga Springs, NY, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Milton Schneebalg (Paula), and three nieces and nephews.

She was born and raised in NYC, and lived in NJ, TX ,and PA before settling in the NY Capital Region. In her mid-life, she moved to Long Island, and then to Staten Island in her last few years.

She was an artist who worked in many different mediums, including batik, stained glass, watercolors, acrylics, and textiles. She was an expert at sewing, and modern art quilting in later years.

After raising her children, Marilynn went to SUNY Albany, earning a B.A. in Women’s Studies, and an M.A. in Education & Counseling. She became a middle school guidance counselor, where she helped students deal with communication, identity, trauma, and life skills. She was also a certified reiki healer.

Marilynn was an active member of LGBTQ organizations in Albany, NY, and on Long Island.
