Obituary for Toby Charney

Tovah Elvira Weinstein Charney departed this Earth after a valiant struggle, surrounded by her loved ones, on November 24, 2021. She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Joseph Jay Charney,
Loving children: Aimée, and her husband Bradley, Douglas, and his husband, Jack; Brother Heshey,
Grandchildren Dylan, Samantha, Jillian and Adam; Great granddaughter Raelyn Grace,
Nieces and nephews Corinne, Steven, Brian, Sandy, Peter, Jeffrey and Dyana. Beloved great Aunt and cousin to many.

Tovah, known and loved as Toby, was born in the former Czechoslovakia. Fleeing the Nazis with her mother Rivka, brother Heshey, and sisters Laura and Roslyn, she built a distinguished life in Brooklyn, earning Bachelor of Science, Masters of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy in Histology degrees. She served as the Director of Surgical Nursing at both Lutheran and Maimonides Medical Centers, and as the Director of Student Nursing at Kingsborough Community College.

Aside from her professional accomplishments, she leaves behind a legacy of love of big bands, nature, science, and family.
