Traditional Jewish Funerals |
---|
We plan and manage traditional Jewish funerals that abide by traditional customs. We accommodate for the different customs of Orthodox, Reform, or Conservative Judaism. Regardless of the sect of Judaism, all traditional Jewish funerals are characterized by simplicity and solemnity. Traditional Jewish funerals take place at the synagogue or at the funeral home. |
Graveside Jewish Funerals |
We offer the option to perform a Jewish funeral service at the designated cemetery. This service is generally simpler and more intimate than the traditional funeral service that occurs at a synagogue. |
The Jewish Burial |
We also manage and supervise the actual burial customs that you would like to occur. We give you the choice of the deceased being interred (earth burial), being entombed in a crypt within a mausoleum, or the deceased being buried at sea. One of the most notable Jewish burial customs occurs when the casket is lowered into the grave. All the guests will then participate into picking up a handful of dirt and placing it into the grave. |
Our Cremation Services |
Even though Jewish tradition does not approve of cremation, we provide cremation services due to the strong interest shown by Jewish families. We offer a full cremation service that includes a formal ceremony and does not compromise Jewish funeral customs that you want to preserve. We also offer a simple direct cremation service that essentially just involves transportation of the body from the place of death to the crematory, the actual cremation of the body, and the completion of all the necessary paperwork. Another option is to have us cremate the body and then hold a memorial service at a later date. |
Our Jewish Funeral Planning services |
One of our biggest strengths lies in helping families plan funeral services. When you lose a loved one you will likely be overcome with sadness and grief which makes even simple life tasks difficult to do. We guide, support, and work with you to make the decisions necessary for planning a funeral. Adhering to the Jewish customs can make planning the funeral service that much more difficult. We are there to ensure every detail is taken care of. |
Our Jewish Funeral Preplanning Services |
Are you interested in preplanning your Jewish funeral? We walk you through every decision to complete your funeral prearrangement including the the process of placing 100% of the pre-funded money for your funeral in an FDIC account which is required by New York State law. |
Offering Jewish Headstone & Gravestone Options |
Unlike most funeral homes, we also sell headstones and gravestones through our Sherman Jewish Monuments division. Go to our Jewish Headstones & Gravestones page to learn about what we offer. |
Servicing Out-of-state or Out-of-country Deaths |
Even if your loved one passes away out-of-state or out-of-the-country, we recommend calling Sherman’s Flatbush Memorial Chapel. We manage all the details involved in the processing and paperwork because the death took place out-of-state or took place internationally. Our past experiences have shown that we can save families a lot of money and frustration if they contact us immediately to handle with these issues. |
Completion of All the Necessary Paperwork |
We assist you in completing all necessary paperwork and documentation such as Social Security forms, Veterans forms, and Insurance policy forms. We ensure they are filled out correctly and that they are sent to the proper parties. |
Writing & Placing Death Notices in Newspapers |
We assist you in composing a death notice and placing it in the newspapers of your choosing. |
Out-of-state Shipping |
We offer services to help arrange for the burial of your loved one in Israel. We will procure the necessary documents from the Israeli Consulate, and arrange with the Chevra Kadisha in Israel to conduct the burial. |
